Florence, Italy“Thank you to the Gruppo Academico Scandicci GAUS and Paola Harris for inviting me to Florence for this conference. What I’d like to do first is give an overview of the “so called” Abduction phenomena and lead into questions of how do we know—or what are the ways of knowing—when we are dealing with something this strange. I also will discuss the implications of this and phenomena like this for our world. I am a Psychiatrist and Psychoanalyst and I have a special interest in extraordinary experience. I’d like to discuss how our language shapes the experience. For instance, words like “abduction” and “alien” shape the conversation a certain way.”
The John E. Mack Institute (JEMI) is named in recognition of the Pulitzer Prize-winning author, and Professor of Psychiatry at the Harvard Medical School, Dr. John E. Mack (1929-2004). Through his warmth, compassion, and courage, John had a profound impact upon the many lives he touched. He is remembered for his fierce commitment to those who most needed his advocacy. His legacy is defined by the deep intelligence he employed in his exploration of human experience and the ways in which our beliefs about reality influence the condition of all life on Earth.
Archives of the Impossible. For the last six years, the Woodson Research Center at Rice University has been collecting and professionally archiving materials related to paranormal currents in American history. Ranging from once highly classified government remote viewing files to thousands of firsthand abduction accounts, the Archives of the Impossible Collection at Woodson has become one of the largest and most significant collections of research materials related to these marginalized or tabooed topics in the world. It is also the archival basis necessary for inaugurating a new phase of scholarly attention to this field.
Poala Harris is an Award Winning Italian / American UFO Investigative Journalist.
